The U.S. House of Representatives will be evaluating a bill called the Innovation and Marketplace Technologies Act (HIMTA). Under that act, the FDA would establish an Office of Mobile Health which would provide recommendations regarding issues related to mobile health apps. You can read more about this here.
Someday, we'll look back on the wild and unregulated days of mobile health apps when developers released anything and everything related to health care just to get an app on the app store. We'll reminisce about all those crazy, wacky mobile apps that even made health claims but never got scrutinized or reviewed by the FDA.
